The I Ching, also known as the Book of Changes, is an ancient Chinese divination text and the oldest of the Chinese classics. A divination text is a book that is consulted at random to obtain guidance or advice.

The I Ching is traditionally used to gain insight into a person's current situation and to make predictions about the future.To use the I Ching, a person first asks a question. They then randomly select a hexagram, or six-lined figure, from the I Ching. The hexagram that is selected is interpreted in light of the question that was asked.

For example, someone who is considering starting a new business might consult the I Ching. They would first ask a question such as, "Should I start a new business?" They would then randomly select a hexagram. The hexagram that is selected might be interpreted as meaning that the person should go ahead with their plans.
