Our red cliff moment
Do we choose slavery or death?
Whom will be free men

Note: This poem was inspired, written in the haiku style of poetry and published for the first time today, the 27th of January, 2025. It was inspired after hearing of this battle in which a people refused to submit to being ruled by others. It struck me that perhaps many nations in the world are at this red cliff moment and not have the choice to submit to a global, centralized rule or maintain their sovereignty as a people with their own culture and traditions.
Rode Klif (red cliff) at Lake IJsselmeer
This cliff is made of boulder clay and is named after the colour of the clay. Red boulder clay is found only in Gaasterland in the Netherlands . The cliff is famous for being the site of the battle of Warns, 1345 AD. The battle is commemorated by the large boulder. The inscription on the boulder, ‘Leaver dea as slaaf’ (better dead than a slave), speaks for itself. To read more of my poems & quotations, please click on the link below:

Wow mate, that is incredible. So simple but so true, especially considering the present times we are experiencing. Life is so simple to live, unless distorted by energies hell bent in taking away our freedoms.
I have got to try to keep more in touch with people like you, amazing people as you are.
All the best to you and your own
Mathew
