Why Are We Fighting? A Poem by M.N. Hopkins

Why are we fighting?

The pettiness of profit

Or, the love of God

Note:  I wrote this poem yesterday in the haiku style of poetry yesterday and published it for the first time today, the 1st of March, 2024.  I suppose that it was inspired by watching a propaganda documentary about Swedes helping and fighting in the Ukraine.  What touched me most was a mother and two girls whose father died in combat and the intense emotional pain they were suffering all because many nations have been lured into an imaginary hatred of others so that they can profit from our suffering.  I had no hatred of anyone in this documentary and so absolutely no reason to join any side in the created for profit war.   It is totally unnatural for a species to exterminate one another in this way.  We are all fighting the wrong enemy.
