Tuesday was a huge moment in the movement to label GMOs. Although Prop 37 was defeated in California, 4.6 million citizens are now on record supporting labeling, and millions more Americans are now aware of the fight to label genetically engineered foods.
Our task now is to advocate unflinchingly for national labeling of genetically engineered foods. Our families, our kids, deserve no less.
With President Obama re-elected, we will continue to demand that he honor the commitment he made to food transparency in 2007. In addition, we must continue to put pressure on the FDA, who cannot defend making 21st century food regulatory decisions based on 1992 science.
One of the biggest challenges we face is that the same agri-chemical companies who outspent state pro-labeling efforts 10-to-1 are active in Washington, D.C., as well. These interests have had their lobbyists insert language into the House version of the Farm Bill to reduce federal agency oversight of genetically engineered foods. It is important that we continue to encourage our elected officials to reject these dangerous Farm Bill riders and prevent them from being passed in Congress' end of the year lame duck session.
Bottom line: we're ramping up the fight in Washington so we can have a national solution. Will you take a minute to share our campaign on Facebook and Twitter?
We also encourage you to tune in on November 14th, when Just Label It will release a special announcement, aimed at building our momentum and continuing to fight for federal labeling of genetically engineered food.
Thank you for your continued support, and make sure to tune in on November 14th.
