Chile Says No To GMO


Foto: Chile recently derailed the ‘Monsanto Law’, a law that would have privatized seeds. This month, rural women, indigenous communities and farmers found themselves on the winning end of a long-fought battle against a bill that had come to be known by many in Chile as simply, the “Monsanto Law.” The bill, which would have given multinational agribusiness corporations the right to patent seeds, was withdrawn by the Chilean government amid concerns that the law would bring harm to the country’s small and mid-sized farmers. Hats off to Chile! A victory for now. But the battle is far from over. It's just begun.
