Transformation - is difficult for some people Some people are so powerfully rooted in the realm of instincts and passions that nobody, no spiritual master, no initiate can change them. They will say, ‘I understand you very well, I agree with you, it’s marvellous, I would like to change, but I can’t, I can’t help myself.’ Some will admit, ‘I can’t do it. If I don’t smoke, eat meat, sleep with women or pilfer a little, I’m unhappy.’ These people are even unhappier afterwards, of course, but that is another matter. So, it is not a question of absolutely wanting to transform these people, but simply of showing them that the spiritual life other people lead makes sense. Whether they will agree to change is another matter. If Christ himself were to appear, thousands of people would fall to their knees to glorify him, but they would remain what they are, unable to transform themselves. The cat may say, ‘I recognize you, I admire you’, but it will still remain a cat – it will always look for mice, and it is no use trying to stop it from doing so.Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov was a Bulgarian philosopher, pedagogue, mystic, and esotericist. A leading 20th-century teacher of Western Esotericism in Europe, he was a disciple of Peter Deunov, the founder of the Universal White Brotherhood. |
