The Wisdom of Sri Aurobindo - Part 3

This will be my last blog entry with the wise and timeless sayings of Sri Aurobindo of India who shared these words with the world between the years of 1913 to 1915.  Again these are from a book I have in my bookcase entitled, Sri Aurobindo - Thoughts and Aphorisms.  These will be miscelleous sayings from throughout this book.

1.  The existence of poverty is the proof of an unjust and ill-organized society and our public charities are but the first tardy awakening in the conscience of a robber.

2.  In God's providence there is no evil, but only good or its preparation.

3.  Live within; be not shaken by outward happenings.

4.  What men call knowledge is the reasoned acceptance of false appearance.  Wisdom looks behind the veil and sees.

5.  What the Soul sees and has experienced, that it knows;  the rest is appearance, prejudice and opinion.

6.  There is no sin in man, but a great deal of disease, ignorance and misapplication.

7.  Become and live knowledge thou hast;  then it is thy knowledge the living God within thee.

8.  Care not for time and success.  Act out thy part, whether it be to fail or to prosper.

9.  Not to have heard the voice of God and His angels is the world's idea of saniety.

10.  I know that the opposite of what I say is true, but for the present what I say is still truer.

11.  Love of man, love of woman, love of things, love of thy neighbor, love of the country, love of animals, love of humanity are all the love of God reflected in these living images.  So love and grow mighty to enjoy all, to help all and to love forever.

12.  Imitation is sometimes a good training ship; but it will never fly the flag of the admiral.

13.  Rather hang thyself then belong to the horde of successful imitators.

14.  Distrust the man who has never failed and suffered;  follow not his fortunes, fight not under his banner.

15.  Break the moulds of the past, but keep safe it's gains and it's spirit, or else thou hast no future.

16.  Atheism is a necessary protection against the wickedness of the Churches and the narrowness of creeds.  God uses it as a stone to smash these soiled Card-houses.

17.  How much hatred and stupidity men succeed in packing up decorously and labelling, "Religion"!

18.  Mankind have wearied of strength and joy and called sorrow and weakness virtue, wearied of knowledge and called ignorance holiness, wearied of love and called heartlessness, enlightenment and wisdom.
