Blåsta bärplockare återvände till Thailand

På söndagseftermiddagen lyfte flygplanet från Arlanda till Bangkok med 120 thailändska bärplockare. För att komma till Sverige lånade de 20 000 kronor, men har inga pengar med sig hem, sedan arbetsgivaren tagit pengarna och försvunnit.

- Jag är orolig för att komma hem, säger Suphot Srangchat, 37, som jobbat 14 timmar per dygn 55 dagar i sträck.
- Jag är hungrig och kan inte sova, säger han via tolk när Aftonbladet träffar honom på flygplatsen.

Klockan 14.45 startade Thai-flighten från Arlanda med bärplockarna som började sin resa med buss i Åsele i Västerbotten i går kväll. Utan garantilönen motsvarande 16 300 kronor i månaden de blivit lovade av Lomsjö bär.

- Det är väl ändå bra att de tog beslutet att fara hem för att skulden deras kommer ju att bli mindre, men samtidigt känns det ju bedrövligt att de ska måsta fara hem med inga pengar mer än de 6.000 kronor de fick i förskott, säger Bert-Rune Dahlberg, socialdemokratiskt kommunalråd i Åsele, till SR Västerbotten.

Polisen ska nu utreda om det förekommit några ekonomiska oegentligheter i Åsele. Ägaren till Lomsjö bär är fortfarande försvunnen och även så alla pengar, bärplockarnas löner.
- Det skulle ju ha varit gjort några dagar tidigare men det är ju bra att det blir gjort att efterlysa honom och med polisens hjälp få tag i honom, säger Bert-Rune Dahlberg.

Cheated Berry Pickers return to Thailand. 

On Sunday afternoon an airplane left Arlanda Airport in Stockholm, Sweden  for Bangkok with 120 Thai Berry Pickers.  To come to Sweden they loaned 20,000 swedish crowns, but are returning home empty handed since the Sweden company owner took all the money earned from their work and disappeared.

Aftonbladet, a major Swedish Newspaper met the returnees at the airport and interviewed Supsrangchat, age 37 who worked 14 hours per day, 55 days in a row. (Now, that's slave labor----my comment).

I am hungry and cannot sleep was his comment before boarding the flight back home to his Homeland.

The police will now investigate whether there had been some financial irregularities in Åsele. The owner of Lomsjö berries is still missing, as well as all the money and  berry-pickers' wages. It would have been done a few days earlier but it's good that this gets done to find him and the police's help to get hold of him said,  Bert-Rune Dahlberg, Åsele Township Official.

The only money that they received for their time in Sweden was 6,000 swedish crowns in advance.

The pickers were guaranteed a wage of 16,300 swedish crowns a month by Lomsjö bär in Åsele, Sweden said,  Bert-Rune Dahlberg, Social Democractic Party Township Official in Åsele, to Swedish Radio in Västerbotten (Province or County of Sweden).

Once again we have another incident of  cheating foreign workers by a Swedish Business and again not much was done to protect them by the Swedish Authorities.  Ari Hallikainen is the owner of  Lomsjö Berry who is suppected of emptying the company account and disapperaing.  Now, Mr Hallikainen and other Swedish Berry Companies are not doing a very good job promoting a positive image of Sweden in our shared world.  Please refer to my former blog entries on the Chinese Berry Pickers and you will clearly see a pattern in this industry.  Once again, I would say, "Shame on You", but again, it will fall upon deaf ears in both the political and the business arenas.
