Haiku Is - As Defined by Santoka Taneda

Haiku is not a shriek, a howl, a sigh, or a yawn; rather, it is the deep breath of life.

俳句は悲鳴でも、遠吠えでも、ため息でも、あくびでもなく、むしろ生命の深い息吹である。

種田山頭火

Taneda Santōka (3 December 1882 - 11 October 1940) was the pen-name of a Japanese author and haiku poet. He is known for his free verse haiku.

the beauty of the sunset
shows no grief
for old age
