MEANING OF “ANKH” THE LIFE SYMBOL

The “little window” of opportunity that supports life on this planet is located between the winter solstice and the summer solstice.   Earth’s small tilt or angle of 23.5 degrees against the plane of our orbit is very important. Without the tilt there would be no summer, winter, spring or fall and life would be very difficult here on Earth.   

Many Native American ceremonies are performed on the winter and summer solstice.  The common knowledge of the meaning of our two solstices is a myth. It is thought that these two events somehow tell farmers when to plant and when to harvest.  Farmers do not plant or harvest on December 21st or on June 20th.  Corn should be knee high by the fourth of July. 

A few months ago a Lakota friend ask me what I could do to help his people restore their cultural and ceremonies.  I suggested they go back to their roots and religious practices, start from the very beginning.   I told him:
