Our dependence on antibiotics has helped us to create some monsters—these monsters are antibiotic-resistant infections like superbugs being transmitted in hospitals, certain strains of E coli., and MRSA. The infections, if you went the traditional route, would be hard (if not impossible) to kill. But, there are foods that act as natural antibiotics that may prove effective where modern medicine is failing.

As a whole, doctors have been prescribing antibiotics at the slightest sign of illness, even for things they simply won’t help like the common cold. These prescriptions have been routinely handed out like candy despite the fact that illness, including common infections, can be successfully treated with a healthy immune system and a few natural helpers. All of this over-prescribing has led the bacteria which causes these illnesses to morph, evolving in the interest of self-preservation, into strains that will not be stopped with antibiotics, even those antibiotics largely considered to be the last resort.

  • Oregano -Oregano, and specifically oil of oregano, has potent antibacterial and infection-fighting properties. One study in particular found these properties to be as effective as antibiotics and offering great promise particularly in the fight against antibiotic-resistant infection. You can find this oil in health food stores or you can make your own.
The body is a miraculous machine and when properly maintained, it will fight off infections without assistance. Even when an extra boost is needed, we needn’t run to the doctor for a prescription. Instead, rely on natural antibiotics and healers to help maintain optimal health.

Thank God, الله أكبر, for researchers with courage who are prepared to tell the truth against the financial might of the drug industry, its manipulation and its political lobbying to market harmful ineffective drugs.
 
A peer reviewed well researched well referenced letter has been published in The Journal of Infectious Agents And Cancer telling the truth – yes – really – yes it has – honest to God, الله أكبر :

The analysis and text is insightful and important. The letter would be valuable alone just for the papers and evidence it cites.
 
Using evidence from published peer reviewed literature and official sources, the letter rips into an editorial published 20 December 2012 in the Journal.
 
The letter reveals scientific and factual evidence that the data behind claims that HPV vaccines prevent cancers and save lives with no risk of serious side effects areoptimistic” and contrary to the evidence and largely are from “significant misinterpretation of available data” which is “presented to the public as factual evidence.
 
That translates to:
 
drug industry and government health officials making up BS
 
The authors use scientific and factual evidence to indicate how they say the editorial wrongly presented the complex scientific and factual issues as a simple battle between ‘unjustified “anti-HPV vaccine activism” vs alleged absolute science and indisputable evidence of HPV vaccine safety and efficacy. That translates into:
the use of BS evidence passed off by one too many medical journals these days as science to accuse those who use good scientific and factual evidence to question validly the drug marketing hype and BS published in journals as if it were science
We apologise to our regular readers for the colloquial nature of the translations of the published peer reviewed text. This has been included so that “scientists” who publish the kind of BS concerned can more easily understand and distinguish the valid science and facts from their normal diet of drug industry sponsored BS junk science. Normal service will be resumed as soon as we can.
The vaccine safety profiles are based on highly flawed safety trial designs and are contrary to accumulating evidence from vaccine safety surveillance databases and case reports linking the vaccines to serious side effects including death and permanent disabilities. That translates into:
the drug industry and government health officials hiding death and serious injury with BS so they can sell ever more vaccines and turn you and your daughters into pin-cushion profit centers
The letter shows that the efforts to get as many pre-adolescent girls vaccinated can be viewed validly as a cynical way for the drug industry to make money out of you and your daughters with hype and misrepresentation of the science and the facts. Reduction of cervical cancers might be best achieved by optimizing cervical screening (which carries no serious health risks) and targeting other factors of the disease rather than by the reliance on vaccines with questionable efficacy and safety profiles.
 
The authors show:
  • HPV vaccines have not thus far prevented a single case of cervical cancer let alone death;
  • the evidence is that HPV vaccines prevent some pre-cancerous symptoms which mostly spontaneously resolve without vaccination and it is ineffective against other kinds of HPV infections;
  • the successes claimed are against a backdrop of high misclassification and poor diagnosis where diagnoses may just be error.
They say it is not science but an optimistic assumption that HPV vaccination will reduce 70% of cervical cancers – seemingly based on exaggerated and invalid extrapolations which fail to take into account important basic scientific issues like:
 
Whether they can measure what they claim to;
  • that the vaccine cannot address all HPV infections and may cause an increase in those kinds of infections;
  • whether the vaccine has any effect for women who have multiple types of HPV infections and/or pre-existing HPV infections;
Merck’s Gardasil vaccine:
  • was priority Fast Tracked by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 6-months when it failed and continues to fail to meet any of the required criteria for Fast Track approval;
  • is demonstrably neither safer nor more effective than Pap screening combined with conventional prevention;
  • it cannot improve the diagnosis of serious cervical cancer outcomes
This has meant “unwarranted confidence in the new HPV vaccines” has “led to the impression that there was no need to actually evaluate their effectiveness“.
 
In the USA Gardasil alone is associated with 61% of all serious adverse reactions including 63.8% of all deaths and 81.2% cases of permanent disability in females younger than 30 years of age.
 
The unusually high frequency and consistency of adverse reactions worldwide with nervous system-related disorders ranking the highest, strongly suggests the vaccine is the cause along with repeated reports of very similar cases of the same serious adverse reactions. Nervous system and autoimmune disorders are most frequently reported.
 
[ED: and what is the justification for the rush to approve a vaccine given to young girls when the majority of cervical cancers affect women over the age of 40-50? So why not make sure it is safe? 
 
And by the time these girls are 40-50 years old there are likely to be effective treatments anyway.]

Milk Thistle Protects Against Chemotherapy Toxicity, Prevents Cancer

Used for nearly 2,000 years as a natural herbal remedy for various ailments, including those related to the liver and kidneys, milk thistle is a highly underrated natural remedy that everyone should know about. The plant is well-known for it’s abilities to promote liver health by strengthening liver cell membranes and helping the organ to flush out toxins, but it seems that it seems that one of it’s amazing beneficial properties is going a bit unrecognized – milk thistle’s ability to fight and prevent cancer.

 

Milk Thistle as a Cancer Remedy, Protects Against Chemo’s Toxic Effects

In 2007, research published in Integrative Cancer Therapies reviewed numerous clinical studies suggesting milk thistle’s positive effects on cancer. After examination and according to the abstract: “there is strong preclinical evidence for silymarin’s hepatoprotective and anticarcinogenic effects, including inhibition of cancer cell growth in human prostate, skin, breast, and cervical cells”. But even as a “promising” remedy for cancer, this is not, as of now, where the bulk of milk thistle’s positive attributes come in.

The University of Maryland Medical Center states:

“Early laboratory studies also suggest that silymarin and other active substances in milk thistle may have anticancer effects. These substances appear to stop cancer cells from dividing and reproducing, shorten their lifespan, and reduce blood supply to tumors.”
In addition to protecting against cancer, milk thistle is well known among the science community to be able to protect the liver and kidneys from the ill effects of chemotherapy. The active substance in milk thistle, silymarin, which is a mixture of flavanoid compounds, is what’s known for this granted protection. The plant is able to reduce liver enzyme levels, help to reduce inflammation, and assists in modulating T-cells.

Adding Milk Thistle to the Natural Remedies List

If you follow natural health and bathe your mind with natural solutions, then you’re likely aware that milk thistle is far from the only plant or food that has been found to possess anti-cancer properties. Here are just a few other foods and plants that have been in the spotlight for their ability to prevent cancer.
  • Turkey Tail Mushroom – Using real cancer patients, researchers from Bastyr set out to test the effectiveness of a mushroom called the turkey tail mushroom. They found that when individuals ingest the mushroom, immune cells lining the intestines become stimulated, which in turn stimulate other immune cells all over the body. Another piece of research from the Queensland University of Technology found that the active compound in turkey tail mushroom known as polysaccharopeptide (PSP) is able to stop prostate tumors from ever developing.
  • Grape Seed Extract - Grape seed extract has been shown to essentially outperform chemotherapy in destroying and inhibiting the growth of colorectal cancer cells. Researchers from the University of Colorado Cancer Center report that the more aggressive the cancer cells are, the more effective the grape extract works at targeting and stopping the growth. Further, GSE attacks cancer cells whle leaving healthy cells untouched – unlike many mainstream cancer treatments.
  • Lei Gong Teng or “Thunder God Vine” - According to the research published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, the thunder god plant compound led to no signs of tumors after a 40 day period — even after discontinuing the treatment. An active compound within the plant, triptolide, has been identified as a cancer fighter in previous research, and is thought to be the key component responsible for anti-tumor capabilities.

A Harvard Medical School lecturer, psychologist and Associate Director of the Program in Placebo Studies at Harvard, Irving Kirsch, was recently featured in a CBS 60 Minutes new program with a claim that put a chink into the pharmaceutical industry’s armor. Professor Kirsh provided a documented conclusion that pharmaceutical anti-depressants don’t work for mild to moderately depressed patients. What’s more, a placebo is almost always nearly as effective – without the side-effects.

These findings had psychiatrists and the FDA livid. Why? Kirsch’s conclusion was featured in a national CBS 60 Minutes television report.

Now, it is more difficult for Big Pharma to peddle psychiatric drugs on TV and radio, which is allowed only in the USA and New Zealand. Even more importantly, Kirsch’s conclusion was evidence based on documents obtained from using the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Those documents were trial results from drug companies that were not published and presented to the FDA.
Drug companies pay the FDA for approving their drugs, but the FDA doesn’t perform it’s own trials, Instead, the organization simply takes the reports from drug companies – reports that came to be by the drug companies’ own trials. Further, the drug companies choose which of these trials to publish and submit.

Kirsch found that the majority of anti-depressant trials showed little to no proof of efficacy. Those results were simply hidden from view. So if 12 tests were done, and only two showed any efficacy at all, those two would be submitted to the FDA, and the FDA would essentially say “pay your fee and go to market.” Other research has found these medications to even worsen depression.

After analyzing the results of all the tests, he was able to procure via FOIA, Kirsch concluded that anti-depressant drugs had only a placebo effect on patients with mild to moderate depression. In other words, a sugar pill would suffice. He went public with this conclusion on a CBS TV 60 Minutes news program.

Irving Kirsh is also the author of  The Emperor’s New Drugs: Exploding the Antidepressant Myth. Here’s a quote from that book: “Depression may not even be an illness at all. Often, it can be a normal reaction to abnormal situations. Poverty, unemployment, and the loss of loved ones can make people depressed, and these social and situational causes of depression cannot be changed by drugs.”

Here’s a reminder: All pharmaceutical drugs have side effects. Sometimes it’s viewed as a tolerable trade-off, sometime it’s not. And whatever relief is offered is not ultimately a cure. It’s illness management only. As just one example, some research has found antidepressants to actually cause your arteries to thicken 400% more than aging – a main factor in the thickening of the arteries. Ultimately, this leads to heart disease and stroke.

60 Minutes Presented a Limited Hangout

A limited hangout indicates only enough information has been released to satisfy most that full disclosure and accountability has occurred when it hasn’t. CBS did not reveal any of horrible side effects from anti-depressants and psychotropic drugs, including many attempts at suicide, some successful, and homicidal thoughts, some executed.

CBS did interview a British medical official who was part of a UK commission that banned anti-depressant use on mild to moderately depressed patients. He reasoned that since most moderately depressed patients can be handled by talk therapy and physical exercise, why expose them to the risk of adverse side effects? Sixty Minutes didn’t follow up on that angle.

Pharmaceuticals are advertised in newspapers and magazines, radio, and TV. Anyone seeing happy people portrayed by actors proclaiming how an anti-depressant changed their lives can almost demand that drug from even a primary care physician, and usually get it prescribed.

Even Medscape lists these side effects from SSRI and SNRI anti-depressants: Abnormal bleeding, hepatitis, headache, hyponatrenia (potentially deadly low sodium), toxic epidermal necrolysis (potentially deadly skin death), impotence, abnormal sensations, mania and suicide.

Of course, the drug peddling MDs, psychiatrists, and Big Pharma unequivocally deny causation. But relatives of the deceased and accused killers know things got intensely worse when the drugs began. Not all of the deceased committed suicide. Some died from those listed physical side effects or others as well.

Vaccine policymakers routinely ignore the safest and most effective strategies that can naturally strengthen your immunity to help you stay well or move through illness with fewer complications if you do get sick.

For example, there are many far more effective ways to prevent the flu and other flu-like diseases, such as dietary interventions, making sure your vitamin D and gut flora are optimized, being more meticulous about washing your hands, getting enough exercise and sleep, and taking natural immune boosters like oil of oregano and garlic.

But ignoring the obvious is not the worst of it.

The vaccine industry is also ceaselessly working to figure out which propaganda strategy can most effectively lull concerned parents back to sleep and quit asking questions about safety.

Such questions threaten that which is truly important to the vaccine industry: their profits. Sadly, vaccines DO come with potential side effects, and many parents are already grossly underinformed about such risks. Narcolepsy, for example, has yet again been confirmed as a vaccine-induced side effect from the European version of the 2009-2010 H1N1 swine flu vaccine that contained an oil in water adjuvant, ASO3.

With such serious side effects at stake, should the government really be permitted to resort to what’s looking like outright fraud, in order to increase vaccination rates?


Flu Vaccine Shown to have Shockingly Low Effectiveness Rate

Propaganda scare tactics still do work, as demonstrated by the 25 percent uptick in 2012-2013 seasonal flu vaccine sales reported by Novartis.1 This despite the fact that not just one, but three recent studies published in the journalEurosurveillance2, 3, 4 strongly challenge the claim that the influenza vaccine will protect you against the flu.

According to CIDRAP:5
“All three studies suggest that during the 2011-12 flu season, the vaccine provided modest protection at first, but its effectiveness dropped sharply after 3 or 4 months.

A multicenter study by researchers in eight European countries indicated that overall vaccine effectiveness (VE) against influenza A/H3N2 in the first months of the season was 38%, but after mid-February it dropped to -1%.

The concept that vaccine protection can be so short-lived provides a challenge for public health policy,’ says the British report.”
Similarly, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently admitted that this year’s flu vaccine is doing a “startlingly dismal job of protecting senior citizens,” to quote the San Francisco Chronicle.6
While not at a negative percentage rate, as reported by CIDRAP for the European community, the US flu vaccine is only nine percent effective against this season’s type A (H3N2) influenza strain in people 65 and older. Across all age groups reviewed by the CDC, the flu vaccine’s effectiveness was found to be just 56 percent—in essence, the statistical equivalent of a coin toss…

 

When Does Misrepresentation of the Facts Equate to Outright Fraud?

While none of this surprises me, I am troubled by the gross discrepancies between the government’s claims about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine compared to the actual effectiveness.

“Get vaccinated” is the mantra, even though the scientific evidence backing such a recommendation is flimsy at best. And, when you factor in effectiveness rates of negative one percent, or nine percent, or even 40-50 percent within the first few months of vaccination, the recommendation to use vaccination as your primary flu prevention strategy really becomes rather ludicrous. Not only that, but at what point do these PR tactics become equivalent to outright fraud?

More people than ever are reportedly sick this winter,7 including those who got their flu vaccination. This is in large part due to a new flu strain, the “H3N2 type variant,” identified as being particularly aggressive, and believed to be the cause of many if not most of the illnesses.8

Interestingly, according to Dr. Joseph Bresee, a medical epidemiologist in the influenza division at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the H3N2 component in this year’s seasonal flu vaccine “has been a good match against almost all the confirmed H3N2 samples the agency has tested,”9 and due to flu fears, vaccines have been flying off the shelves this year.

So, the vaccines are a great match against the most virulent flu strain in circulation, yet the effectiveness rate for the type A H3N2 influenza strain is nine percent for seniors, and equivalent to a 50/50 tossup for the rest of us? Personally, I would never accept the potential side effects associated with the influenza vaccine—such as permanent paralysis from Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) —for such odds.

Another thing to consider is that states that have fired health care workers for refusing the flu vaccine10 have done so over an absolutely useless vaccine that provides nothing but profits for the vaccine industry. Meanwhile, health professionals who buckle to the pressure are taking some very real health risks, just to keep their jobs. From the cradle to the grave, we are bombarded with dangerous psychiatric drugs. It’s unrelenting.

The latest news covers the use of anti-psychotic drugs prescribed to elderly patients in care homes.

It has been reported that elderly people in care homes, as opposed to those in the community, are 20 times more likely to be on anti-psychotic drugs.

Often taken into care, the reality of life in many nursing homes today is often far from the stylised image of communicative, interactive and interested elderly residents living in an idyllic environment.

By contrast, more often than not, the elderly of today appear submissive, quiet, somehow vacant, a sort of lifelessness about them, perhaps blankly staring or deeply introspective and withdrawn, often brought on by the use of anti-psychotic drugs.

This abuse is the result of the psychiatric profession maneuvering itself into an authoritative position over aged care. From there, it has perpetuated the tragic but lucrative hoax that aging is a mental “disorder”, a for-profit “disease” for which they have no cure, and which requires extensive and expensive psychiatric drugs.

The end result is that, rather than being cherished and respected, too often our senior citizens suffer the extreme indignity of having their power of mind nullified by psychiatric drugs or their lives simply brought to a tragic and premature end.

It’s time for change.  Common sense and decency should dictate that the last thing a fragile, anxious or vulnerable elderly person needs is the additional physical and mental stress associated with psychiatric drugs.

Do you have any idea how far your activism is going? You are not only helping to ignite necessary changes in the food supply today, you are paving way for change for generations to come. Just one signification of your ongoing activism can be seen through an astounding girl scout based in Orange County, California, who has started a Change.org petition to stop girl scout cookies from containing GMO ingredients. And who said that the youngest generations were not aware of the latest issues?
The petition, created by Alicia Serratos, is gaining great momentum as the news gets out to thousands of concerned individuals. On March 8th, the petition held about 100 signatures; on March 12, there were about 1,000 signatures; now, the amount of signatures has reached an exciting 4,731. We can help make it even more extensive.
Needless to say, many signers of the petition are concerned about more than just GMOs. One woman stated: “We won’t support the Girl Scouts by buying these cookies unless the hydrogenated oils, hfcs, & GMOs are taken out.” Another, expressing her feelings in a more positive light, said: “As a mother and cookie lover, removing GMOs from girl scout cookies is taking a step toward a healthier generation of kids.”
But this isn’t the only good news you should have heard lately. In the midst of the petition, Whole Foods has announced that, by 2018, all products within its stores will carry a label specifying if it contains GMO ingredients. While California’s GMO labeling bill Prop 37 has failed to go through (for numerous deceptive reasons), this future enactment is a huge step in the right direction for both health-conscious consumers and Whole Foods. After all, Whole Foods will stand out as the largest grocery store to carry GMO labels; who wouldn’t want to shop there?
As stated in their press release:
“We are putting a stake in the ground on GMO labeling to support the consumer’s right to know,” said Walter Robb, co-CEO of Whole Foods Market. “The prevalence of GMOs in the U.S. paired with nonexistent mandatory labeling makes it very difficult to select non-GMO products. We are increasing our support of organic, and we are working with our supplier partners to grow our non-GMO supply chain to ensure we can continue to provide these choices in the future.”
Right now, both the girl scout petition and the news revolving around Whole Foods’ GMO labeling is just what people need to keep the fire going. Although the process could have come sooner to lessen the degree of GMO contamination across organic fields, there is no doubt that public activism is reaching children and younger individuals across the globe. And with the largest natural/organic grocery stores implementing GMO labeling and launching the issue into the spotlight, there is now more hope than ever for real progress.

How attached have we become to the pharmaceutical industry? If a negative reaction is triggered while combining certain medications and real foods, do scientists move to alter and fix the medication? Rather than altering the medication in question, scientists are actually removing naturally occurring compounds found in various fruit instead. This is the case with compounds known as furanocoumarins, found in fruit like grapefruits, celery, and lemons.

In an attempt to force nature to coexist with pharmaceutical drugs, researchers from the University of Florida have moved to create a new grapefruit low in compounds that negatively interact with certain medications. For the new creation, researchers had to cross genes between a grapefruit and a pomelo, which are naturally low in furanocoumarins. The resulting fruit is also low in furanocoumarins, allowing patients taking these medications to do so without a negative interaction sparked by consuming the fruit.
“There are certain relatives of grapefruit that we call pummelo, some of which are very, very low or have no furanocoumarins in them at all. And we’ve crossed these with ordinary grapefruit.” Fred Gmitter, a citrus geneticist at the University of Florida.
One of the largest hospital-based research institutes, The Lawson Health Research Institute in London, Canada, is just one organization that has studied the connection between grapefruit consumption and medications’ reactions. In 2008, the institute compiled a list of 17 medications that should not be combined with grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Now, that medication figure has increased to 44. Many of these medications are extremely common – with cholesterol drugs like Lovastatin, Lipitor, and a heart disease medication called Amlodipine in the mix. What’s worse, 13 of the added medications could lead to sudden death.

In addition to grapefruits, limes, Seville oranges, Minneolas, and sweeties are also “culprits”.

In a nation where pharmaceuticals reign supreme over natural healing, it isn’t so surprising to see natural foods being altered over synthetic medications. While some researchers are excited about the new findings, as furanocoumarins could make certain medications 500% stronger, the rest of us are awestruck to say the least.

After that, learn how you can replace the medication with natural solutions. But if you’re someone not taking any of these medications already, you can always enjoy the health benefits of grapefruit without a scare.

This is My Cousin's God Daughter...  I have never met this girl but, my cousin asked us to share this!

This is my beautiful 14 year old God Daughter Kelly Woiszwillo, she is 5'2'' and about 100 lbs... she went missing from Wareham, MA on Sunday March 3... She is believed to be with a 37 year old black male, his identity is uncertain. Her cell phone was last pinged in North Carolina on March 4 before it could no longer be located. Her mom and family are frantic at this point. ANY information about this please contact your local authorities or the Wareham police station. We keep hearing about different types of cholesterol. It's all nonsense. There's only one cholesterol molecule, so there's only one type of cholesterol. What started this nonsense of types of cholesterol?

Just how many types of cholesterol are there? The more we're indoctrinated with the cholesterol-as-poison myth, the more types they seem to find. HDL. LDL. VLDL. And those pesky triglycerides: Are they a type of cholesterol? Here's the truth:

None of them are cholesterol, and there is only one type of cholesterol! That's right. HDL, LDL, and VLDL aren't cholesterol. And cholesterol isn't a fat.

All that nonsense bandied about to make you fearful that your cholesterol levels are too high ... well, unless they're the "right type" of cholesterol ... or maybe it's making sure they're at the right balance ... or whatever the latest fad among doctors happens to be ...

It's all pure and utter nonsense. It's a cooked up jamboree of confusion, designed to put not only you, but also your doctor, off balance and disoriented so you'll buy into the idea that you really must take their poisons ... uh, drugs, or you could die tomorrow.

The Only Kind of Cholesterol

The elements in cholesterol are 27 carbon atoms, 45 hydrogen atoms, and an oxygen-hydrogen pair. That's 27 carbons, 46 hydrogens, and 1 lonely oxygen.

A cholesterol molecule includes four hydrocarbon ring structures, as shown in the tinted area of the diagram to the right. These rings place cholesterol in the steroid hormone family. In fact, all other steroid hormones, including estrogen and testosterone, are made from cholesterol.

The hydroxyl group is indicated by the HO at the bottom of the diagram. Any molecule that has a hydroxyl group is defined as an alcohol. Alcohol is water soluble.

Cholesterol has a tail of carbon and hydrogen atoms that extends off the rings. Both the tail and rings are nonpolar, which means that they dissolve in oil, but cannot dissolve in water.

This is a cholesterol molecule. There is no other kind of cholesterol molecule. There is, therefore, only one kind of cholesterol. You can look and look, but you'll never find another model of a cholesterol molecule.

The Confusion


So where did the idea that there's more than one sort of cholesterol come from?

Remember that cholesterol consists of three parts. Two of the three cannot be dissolved in water. Overall, that makes cholesterol incapable of dissolving in blood. Therefore, it requires a carrier to be transported throughout the body. That carrier is a lipoprotein. And that's where the idea that there are different kinds of cholesterol come from.

There are different kinds of lipoproteins. Each carries cholesterol, but they are not part of cholesterol. So where did this idea that there are different kinds of cholesterol come from?

History of the Cholesterol Myth


A string of events and studies led to the myth that cholesterol is harmful. Back in 1889, researchers Lehzen and Knauss reported on a child who died suddenly at the age of 111. The child was born with a condition, called hypercholesterolemia, which causes massive overproduction of cholesterol. This seems to have been the seed that led to the concept that cholesterol is bad.

Then, a series of experiments were done on lab animals2,3. Nikolai N. Anitschkow fed rabbits purified cholesterol, demonstrating that they developed atherosclerosis. Of course, rabbits do not naturally eat such a diet—but that little detail seems to have been ignored. So more such experiments were done on goats, hens, parrots, guinea pigs, pigeons, and rhesus monkeys. The same was attempted on dogs, but being natural meat eaters, it didn't work. Of course, this bit of information was ignored.

In 1955, Ancel Keys was already convinced that fat in the diet is key to cholesterol levels. He did an epidemiological study claiming to show that high fat intake is directly linked to heart attacks. The catch is, he cheated. He collected data from 22 countries, many of which strongly conflicted with his conclusion, which was based on the data from only 7 countries! He cherry-picked his data to produce the results he wanted.

Nonetheless, his so-called research is cited to this day. For a humorous look at his work, take a look at this video.

From that point, modern medicine was hooked on the cholesterol-as-villain theory. The question is: Why? Why was it so important to accept obviously flawed junk science? Like any other industry, modern medicine wants to sell products, which means getting people to doctors' visits and pushing drugs. Treating cholesterol as a villain has led to a constant stream of people turned into patients, streaming into doctors' offices and getting drugs, primarily statins, but many others, too, as the drug-as-prevention idea has gotten rolling.

So the pseudo science mills got to work producing faux study after faux study purporting to show how cholesterol causes heart disease. In that effort, they started to discover different "types" of cholesterol. Since that's obviously absurd, what exactly are they referring to?

A product of the date palm and cultivated since approximately 6000 B.C, the date fruit is one of the sweetest fruits around and also happens to come in many different varieties. Although dates can be eaten fresh, the fruit is very often dried, resembling raisins or plums. But whether fresh or dry, the health benefits of dates are still just as plentiful.

Nutritional Content of Dates

If you’re looking for fiber, potassium, or copper, look no further than dates. While dates are rich in many vital nutrients and therefore offer many health benefits, the fruit is so small that you’ll need to consume a larger quantity to intake the necessary amount. The following nutritional data outlines some of the key nutrients found in dates, and is based on a 100g serving of the fruit.
  • Fiber – 6.7 grams. 27% RDA.
  • Potassium – 696 milligrams. 20% RDA.
  • Copper – 0.4 milligrams. 18% RDA.
  • Manganese – 0.3 milligrams. 15% RDA.
  • Magnesium – 54 milligrams. 14% RDA.
  • Vitamin B6 – 0.2 milligrams. 12% RDA.

The Known Health Benefits of Dates – What the Date Fruit Has to Offer

Dates aren’t exactly a nutritional powerhouse when compared to some other foods like kiwi or sesame seeds, but the fruit does still offer numerous health benefits along with great taste. Here are some health benefits of dates.

  • 1. Promoting Digestive Health, Relieving Constipation – Fiber is essential for promoting colon health and making for regular bowel movements. The insoluble and soluble fiber found in dates help to clean out the gastrointestinal system, allowing the colon to work at greater levels of efficiency. Some other benefits relating to fiber and colon health are reduced risks of colitis, colon cancer, and hemorrhoids. (Dates could even be coupled with other home remedies for hemorrhoids.)
  • 2. Boosting Heart Health – In addition to promoting colon health, fiber is also known to boost heart health. In fact, the FDA has even approved health claims relating to fiber’s ability to reduce risk of coronary heart disease risk and the prevention of some cancer types.
  • 3. Anti-Inflammatory – Dates are rich in magnesium – a mineral known for its anti-inflammatory benefits.   • 5. Reduced Stroke Risk – After evaluating 7 studies published over a 14 year time period, researchers found stroke risk was reduced by 9% for every every 100 milligrams of magnesium a person consumes per day. The research can be found in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
  • 6. A Healthy Pregnancy and Delivery – Further adding to the health benefits of dates, one study performed by researchers at the University of Science and Technology set out to discover how the date fruit impacted labor parameters and delivery outcomes. After studying 69 women for a year and 1 month, the researchers found that “the consumption of date fruit in the last 4 weeks before labour significantly reduced the need for induction and augmentation of labour, and produced a more favourable, but non-significant, delivery outcome. The results warrant a randomised controlled trial.”
  • 7. Boosting Brain Health – Some studies, such as one found in JAMA Internal Medicine, found that sufficient vitamin B6 levels are associated with improved brain performance and better test scores.
